The Come Alive at Night: Paranoia That Creeps in the Dark
Sticks and stones. Paperclips and dolls. Pens and phones.
They come alive in your absence; they talk and play, they party and pray. As inanimate as they seem, don’t let them fool you… for you’re their prey. They hate your presence; you deprive them of life. They despise your dabbling; you pain their frames. They hold meetings behind your back; they scheme, and they plot, their plans vile with intent, and your demise is their goal. So, beware their presence as you dim the lights and drift to slumber. For they watch you sleep, and they enact their evil little schemes. So many times before lady luck took your side, and so many times they failed. But you never truly know. For tonight may be the night, when lady luck changes sides.
So remember to stay vigil as you drift to never-land and keep a mace swift in hand. Lest this glorious starry night be your very last freight.
They Are Real: The Horror isn’t Just in Your Head
The creatures of the dark are real.
They lurk inside your room, hidden in the cloak of darkness. Even through the light of day, they still thrive in the pitch of unlit crevices. They watch as you undress in the safety of your empty room, staring as you hum melodies in the brightness of day and go about your daily chores. They observe as you blast music through your headphones, venturing closer behind you, only to fade in the darkness when your loved one calls.
But they’re there.
They observe you through the cover of night, as you drift to sleep in bed, and as you toss to the tranquillity of your dreams. They hover over you, their dark eyes brilliant with intrigue, sniffing at your hair and running their drooping noses over your face and their claws across your neck.
In the dark. When you’re alone. When you’re most vulnerable.
Is it sheer curiosity that drives them? Adoration, maybe? Or is it hate for us creatures of the light?
I guess we’ll never know for sure. But they’re real, nonetheless.
They Lied About the Monsters: The Truth is Far More Sinistar
They lied when they said monsters don’t exist; that they don’t hide underneath your bed, that the face in the dark was but the folds of your crumpled shirt in the corner of the room. They lied when they said your unsmiling reflection was but a figment of your hyperactive imagination.
They lied.
Monsters do exist.
Not in the confines of the dark shroud of your room. Rather, they’re tucked away in the darkest, most decrepit crevices of your subconscious mind. They’re the demons that whisper in your ear, telling you despicable things that only you can hear; things you wouldn’t dare tell anyone else, things you desperately desire, things of vile and malevolent intent. Things that would bring you joy beyond your wildest expectations.
They hide behind the intrusive thoughts that prod through your mind every fleeting second – as you talk to a friend, or as you watch a stranger pass you by. They’re behind the ephemeral urge to sink your teeth through their necks and taste the rush of their blood gushing through your tongue. Or running a knife through their lower jaw, and revel in the satisfying joy of seeing it shine in their bleeding mouths. They elicit the need to shove your wrist through their yapping lips, past their teeth and their tongues to their throat and beyond… and to grab them by their pharynx and yank their guts from their mouths. And the desire to split their skulls and yank them open, and to dip your hands into the soft, wet and gooey mush that is their pulsating brains.
Monsters exist, dear reader. Just look in the mirror, and there you will finally see.
They lied. THEY LIED!
